REAL STUDENT VIEWS

Sam profile image

Sam, physical education

I am a member of the Brighton Panthers football team. This has been one of the most important aspects of university for me because of the people I have met. You make a great group of friends and engage with students from other years.

Sophie, geography

The facilities at Moulsecoomb are really great; the gym is right on campus and next to a bus stop, and the staff are very helpful. The Students’ Union bar at Mithras is also a nice place to relax with other students and get drinks after lectures.

Societies and social groups at the university help you participate in something completely new or meet new people in a sport that you’re already passionate about. If you’re unsure, societies have representatives who are on hand to answer your questions and help you get stuck in!

Eva, pharmacy

Trying new things and getting out of my comfort zone has been the best part of my university experience. I joined the jiu-jitsu club in my first week. I’d never done any martial arts before! By second year, I’d become the president of the club!

Societies are communities of their own that allow you to learn new skills, gain knowledge and make lots of friends. The best thing about societies is that you get to meet all types of people from different courses.

Rose, globalisation, history, politics and culture

I knew I wanted to be part of a society while at university, and in year 2, I joined the socialist society which has helped me meet some amazing people with similar passions to my own and provided an excellent outlet to express what I believe in.

ALL ABOUT SPORT AT BRIGHTON

Gyms and sports facilities for everyone

We are investing in our fitness facilities that are open to all our students.  Moulsecoomb’s on-campus gym has a cardio and weights suite and a studio offering a range of classes, and at Falmer, there’s a newly renovated gym and indoor sports facilities, including badminton, netball and basketball courts, alongside an indoor swimming pool. Falmer also offers outdoor facilities including grass pitches, a floodlit 3G pitch and hardcourts.

Playing to win: Brighton Panthers

Student sports clubs at the university are known as the Brighton Panthers and, with over 40, they cover lots of different sports. If you’re looking for something a bit more competitive, you can join one of our 32 sports teams that compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues against other universities.

Fun, friendship and fitness: Panthers Play

If competition is not your priority, then Panthers Play offers the opportunity to take part in clubs and activities just for fun. From weekly drop-in sessions to one-off events like ice-skating, you’re bound to find a community for you. Sport can play a key role in developing your employability and through our volunteering programme you could build skills in coaching, leadership, event organisation, administration, media and communications.

Sports performance programme

We support athletes competing at high level by providing strength and conditioning coaching, lifestyle mentoring, physiotherapy and performance workshops. We are also an accredited Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) delivery site.

Square One Cricket Academy

Square One has partnered with the university to bring a new cricket academy to campus, combining elite coaching and high-performance conditioning with academic balance. Ambitious cricket players who are enrolled on a University of Brighton course can train, compete and develop within one of the UK’s most innovative cricket environments, alongside their studies.
