Professional accreditations

More than 50 professional organisations recognise and accredit our courses, which can give an extra qualification on top of your degree, a licence to practice, exemption from professional examinations and membership of a professional body.

Placements

Placements can be a core part of your course or an option that you choose, it depends on your subject. Our specialist placements, internships and volunteering team are here to help. Field trips, work shadowing, competitions and live briefs all form the work-related learning you can experience.

CAREERS ADVICE AND SUPPORT – THROUGHOUT YOUR JOURNEY

Our professional careers and employability team are sector specialists who know what employers in specific industries are looking for. Alongside your course tutors they can help you understand how your studies and your activities translate into the sought-after Graduate Attributes. Based in careers centres on each campus, they can help you to spot and work on gaps in your skills and think about what you want to do in the future so you can feel confident that you’re making the most of your time at university. They can also help you find part-time work while you’re studying.

Anxhela, accounting and finance

I had three appointments with the careers service this year and they were all very useful. The adviser gave me feedback on my CV that helped me secure a part-time job. I also joined a university mentoring programme. I had the chance to speak to someone who had an amazing work background and a lot of experience in the area I am interested in. I learned things I could have not known on my own.

MORE SKILLS, MORE EXPERIENCES, MORE CONNECTIONS

We can also help you get involved in other activities designed to develop your attributes and employability.

  • Sports, societies and clubs – interesting and fun stuff, and a great way to make new friends and connections.
  • Volunteering in the community – getting involved with community activities that you care about shows commitment and motivation.
  • Working for the university – lots of students work while studying and there are loads of ways you can be part of the campus community while being paid.
  • Business start-up support – start your own project and develop your entrepreneurial skills with our help.
  • Campaigning and democracy – add your voice to influence the future with Brighton Students’ Union.
  • Mentoring – self-development and support through mentoring others and being mentored.
  • Studying or working abroad – broaden your horizons with exchange programmes that are open to all students and get help towards the costs.

Katy, media

I did a month placement with the Brighton Green Party, which gave me a great idea of what it’s like working in industry. I also took a module on social media, in which we worked in groups with a local organisation to facilitate a social media campaign for them, so that gave us first-hand experience of working to achieve a company goal.

Helia, civil engineering

Through the careers team, I got involved with Active Student and found some volunteering work. The careers team were impeccable, helping me build and tailor my CV and finding opportunities that suited my preferences.
